Reports to: Manager, Health & Safety
Purpose of the Role As a member of the Health & Safety team, you will drive health and safety initiatives and new technologies by working with stakeholders to collect and analyze health and safety data; monitor and report out on H&S performance (metrics), conduct health and safety field visits, and manage stakeholder and vendor relationships.
The successful candidate will be the main point of contact internally for health and safety related issues, will champion the tools to track success of health and safety initiatives, and lead in the development of standards and on-going improvements of the health and safety programs. The successful candidate will possess the ability to communicate and interact professionally with all levels of the organization.
This is a Full Time Hybrid role based in BC.
Core Accountabilities
- Lead the workplace injury claims program, including modified duty offers and return to work placements with support and consultation from third party workplace nurses, doctors, adjudicators, and LifeLabs leadership
- Manage the relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization to collect and analyze data for injury prevention
- Manage health and safety compliance programs and reporting requirements
- Provide health and safety expertise for internal and external stakeholders with regards to health and safety initiatives
- Develop the tools and system requirements that ensure proper data collection for projects under review and ensures that the data is consistent, reliable, and well documented
- Conduct health and safety risk assessments for existing and new programs, products, and workflows
- Design and maintain internal and external dashboards presenting company health and safety impacts
- Conduct health and safety audits and site inspections to review the H&S performance of the business and evaluate compliance with applicable H&S legislation and standards
- Analyze both internal and external operations process and offer recommendations for constant improvement in reducing LifeLabs incident rate by identifying opportunities that improve the workplace
- Prepare and review technical correspondence including consulting reports, work plans, and project specifications on project scope and cost/budget proposals for approval of senior staff.
- Manage consultants and vendors used for health and safety programs
Minimum Qualification and Skills
- Diploma, Bachelor’s degree or higher in health and safety related discipline strongly preferred
- 3-5 years of experience in similar position
- Experience working with the WSIB, WSBC, and WSSK claims adjudicators
- Experience within health and safety auditing
- Experience working with WorkSafe BC, Ministry of Labour and other regulatory bodies and officers
- Strong understanding of modified work offers and workplace injury compensation programs
- Understanding of health and safety regulations both provincial and federally regulated
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Understanding and previous experience with risk assessments
- Familiarity with ISO and other health and safety frameworks
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize, organize and manage multiple priorities
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and deliver results in a fast-paced environment with changing and competing priorities
- Ability to work in a team environment and individually
- Able to display a positive attitude with a high level of professionalism
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Excellent computer skills with proven ability to work with Microsoft Office Suite products with exceptional skills in Excel and other statistical analysis software
- Must be able to tavel to various sites in BC
