Reports to: Manager, Datacenter Services

 

Purpose of the Role The Senior Network Specialist, Datacenter Services is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of computer networks and will provide technical direction to Datacenter Services’ network administrators. As a senior position in the IT organization, they are responsible for designing and operating our local area networks, wide area networks, Internet connections, intranets and other data communications systems.

 

The Senior Network Specialist, Datacenter Services, implements and leads all activities required to deliver successful 24x7x365 datacenter operations to support several production services within a complex environment of on premise and hybrid cloud technology enterprise. They will provide direction to datacenter administrators and responsible for demonstrating proven technical and people leadership in ensuring high system uptime (ensuring that critical and ancillary services and their supporting infrastructure are actively monitored and required actions initiated in response to real-time observations and triggered events and incidents), optimal resource utilization, support change & growth, collaborate with functional partners, empower people and effect continuous improvement.

 

This is a full time hybrid role based in Burnaby, British Columbia.

 

Core Accountabilities

  • Manage Network Infrastructure team resourcing, planning, scheduling, and prioritizing efforts to meet overall network infrastructure commitments
  • Provide technical direction in all aspects of network management from network design through implementation, maintenance and upgrading of existing networks
  • Responsible for up time, monitoring, reliability, BCP/DR, stability and maintenance of supported systems as well as continual assessment of the quality and effectiveness of our network monitoring and alarming
  • Manage routine changes, provision services, deployments, fault isolation, service recovery, and incident analysis
  • Review network characteristics and recommend procurement of, and/or modifications to network components System
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the 24x7x365 on premise and cloud datacenter infrastructure
  • Technical leadership and oversight that provide identification, correlation and automated recovery of events and incidents
  • Provide expertise related to enterprise server, datacenter, and cloud environments
  • Maintain systems integrity, compliance, and security through controls on High Availability, Capacity, Patching, and Vulnerability Management Network/System Track performance of the datacenter
  • Key person for major incidents, take ownership of problems to resolution Improve efficiency through automation, based upon analyzing and identifying opportunities where automation can tackle administration tasks, volume, systemic or critical operational issues

 

Minimum Qualification and Skills

 

  • Bachelor's degree in IT or equivalent
  • Minimum 8 years experience working in a technology leadership role
  • Minimum of 11+ years working as a network engineer and supporting many of the following services and technologies: backbone networks, computer networks, disaster recovery enterprise network environments with high working level knowledge of Data Center Network Routing & Switching, Firewall, and Load balancing technologies
  • Extensive experience leading infrastructure delivery teams inclusive of scope, scheduling, budgeting, and project planning in an environment with aggressive delivery goals
  • Minimum of 10 years' hands-on technical experience building and supporting many of the following services and technologies: data center facilities management, experience supporting enterprise Server environment escalations, knowledge in backup, restore, and disaster recovery technologies and data center best practices Large-scale storage area networks (SAN) Data center provisioning, disaster recovery
  • Experience with public cloud infrastructure and Virtual Private Cloud
  • CCIE, MS AZ Network, Palo Alto certification (PSCNSA, PCNSE) would be a great asset
  • Flexible to travel to various sites within BC
