This is a 12-Month Contract that can be based in either Toronto, ON or Burnaby, BC


Reports to: Manager, Communications


Purpose of the Role: The Senior Communications Specialist will be responsible for the creation & management of internal & external communications activities across multiple platforms for a wide-ranging audience.


Core Accountabilities:

• Create and execute effective communications strategies and tactics for assigned projects

• Take an active role in developing creative concepts and content for multiple projects

• Create, edit, and manage content for multiple platforms with minimal supervision

• Convey technical material in a clear, easy-to-read, and compelling style

• Evaluate and identify potential news items and develop corresponding press pitches, press releases, press materials, and build/maintain media lists

• Publicize region-specific initiatives as well as enterprise-wide initiatives

• Develop written communications for the executive team including enterprise-wide staff announcements, Town Hall meetings, and corporate presentations

• Own weekly employee newsletter; write regular feature articles and serve as the main point of contact for news contributors

• Develop time-sensitive written communications, including business continuity emails

• Build and nurture strong relationships with internal client partners to manage multi-tiered content approval processes

• Measure, monitor, assess and evaluate content effectiveness and impact on key business objectives


Minimum Hiring Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing communications, or related discipline (e.g. English)

• 5+ years of experience working in a complex corporate communications environment

• Proven impeccable writing, editing and communication skills

• Knowledge of evolving communication channels, including emerging new media, social media

• Advanced proficiency in MS Office, Adobe Photoshop and InDesign; experience with Sitecore and/or HTML is a plus

• Crisis communications experience

• Proven project management skills for developing, implementing, managing, and evaluating communications initiatives, events, and programs

• Ability to develop clear and effective content under tight deadlines for multiple concurrent projects, in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment

• Highly-motivated and able to work well alone and as part of a team
