The Assistant Controller will be responsible for leading a team in the provision of comprehensive, accurate and timely financial reporting.  The accounting services provided by the team include all activities associated with monthly, quarterly and annual reporting, as well as process and control documentation, adherence and standard setting.


  • Provide leadership to the team through performance management, daily mentorship and skill development
  • Manage Financial Accounting services, including financial statements and reporting, reconciliations, closing balances and tracking of capital projects
  • Complete financial reports on a monthly basis
  • Validate that financial reporting and metrics tie to the consolidated trial balance
  • Take an active role in preparation of year end financial statements and dealing with external auditors
  • Manage the implementation of new or revised accounting, policies, practices and procedures for reporting
  • Analyze requirements and implement new or revised IFRS standards
  • Document processes and controls related to accounting, reporting and system interaction
  • Monitor processes and procedures for internal controls required to support the delivery of accurate financial results
  • Ability to perform ad hoc projects in support of the CFO and Director Finance and Controller
  • Perform back-up for key activities of the Director Finance and Controller



  • A professional accounting designation coupled with a minimum of 5 years related experience
  • 2-3  years of leadership experience and an energy for leading a team
  • Strong working knowledge of financial statement preparation, corporate taxes, budgeting and forecasting
  • Proven ability to both lead and work within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated initiative in recognizing efficiencies and implementing process improvement initiatives
  • Proven ability related to documenting processes and preparing presentations
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, with the ability to work with a variety of people in a team environment
  • Strong analytical skills with an attention to detail in order to research and escalate issues.
  • Solid organizational and time management skills in order to prioritize competing demands and meet deadlines
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships
  • Strong computer and reporting skills with an advanced proficiency in MS Excel and Word Experience with Oracle, Hyperion or SAP would be considered a definite asset
  • Experience in the implementation of an ERP or billing system would be beneficial
  • IFRS knowledge an asset
